When will my order ship?
Orders should ship from our Texas warehouse 1 to 2 business days after they have been placed.

Why do you use plastic packaging on some items?
We are pursuing more environmentally friendly packaging for all our products. We use plastic for various reasons, such as sanitary requirements and protection of the items in store and shipping. We are considering including starch-based polybags and paper-based packaging to replace the plastic packaging.
General Bamboo Product FAQs

Are any chemicals used to grow bamboo?
All our bamboo is grown without the use of pesticides, fertilizers, chemicals or artificial irrigation. Bamboo is considered one of the most sustainable resources in the world because of the gentle harvesting process. When harvesting bamboo, the root system is left in place, which allows for quick regrowth.

How is the bamboo treated during manufacturing? Are any dyes or stains used on your bamboo products? What is the process?
Bamboo is split and then boiled and/or heated with steam and pressure before it’s glued into boards using food-safe adhesives. A longer heat/steam process is what creates the caramelized color in the dark boards. There are no colors added. The color of bamboo may vary based on how long it is under heat treatment. The longer the heat treatment, the darker the color. After the boards are made, mineral oil is applied.

We use only food-safe glue.

Bamboo Cutting Boards

Do I have to oil my board?
It is not necessary to use oil, however, oiled cutting boards are more hygienic, less likely to crack and look great. Oil helps to keep mold from growing and reduces water absorption which can lead to warping or cracking. It keeps your boards hydrated and gives it a nice finish but isn’t needed.
Boards coated with lacquer do not benefit from oil as much as uncoated boards. Our lacquer-coated items include:

Why mineral oil? Can I use any other oil?
Food-grade mineral oil is the most widely used oil for wooden and bamboo cutting boards because it’s stable and won’t go rancid over time. You can use coconut oil as a substitute to mineral oil. You want to avoid using vegetable oil, olive oil and canola oil for your cutting boards because they will go rancid, leaving your board with a bad smell.

Can I use my cutting board as a trivet?
We do not recommend using your cutting board as a trivet.

How do I get rid of splinters on my cutting board?
Splintering may occur in wooden and bamboo cutting boards and is easy to remedy if it does. For smaller splinters, use an abrasive pad and scrub the board across the grain. Larger splinters can be removed with sandpaper.

I detect an odor on my new cutting board. What is this?
Bamboo cutting boards can have a fragrance when they are brand new. The smell is not from a chemical, but from the bamboo itself. The bamboo has been heat and steam treated to improve its durability and to achieve its beautiful, rich caramel color. This process can leave a smell, but it should dissipate within a few days.

How can I remove mold from my cutting board?
For a natural solution to mold, simply sprinkle some coarse salt generously over the board and take half of a fresh lemon to scrub the salt onto the surface. If this doesn’t work, mix 1 teaspoon of bleach into 2 quarts of water and scrub the mixture onto the cutting board.
The best way to avoid mold on your cutting boards is to wash them properly and let them air dry by standing them upright to allow even airflow on either side of the board. Applying mineral oil to your board about once a month also helps to keep your cutting board mold free.

What temperatures can my bamboo or wooden utensils handle?
Our bamboo and acacia wood utensils can withstand up to 400 degrees of heat. However, our Baltique® utensils or lacquered utensils should not be used with excessively high temperatures, like when frying. No wooden or bamboo utensils should be exposed to direct flame.

Yes. There is a food-safe lacquer coating on the utensils.

What is the clear lacquer made of? And why is it on the bamboo?
The bamboo utensils are coated with a food-safe lacquer to ensure their durability. For consumer safety, our products are regularly tested for compliance with all FDA requirements and recommendations. Coatings are tested to make sure there are no toxic materials including phenols (BPA, etc.) or heavy metals (cadmium, lead, etc.).

What kind of glue is used for the Eco Dish Rack?
Screws and food-safe adhesive hold it together.

My dish rack seems to be growing mold. How can I avoid this?
Mold can grow on any organic surface if left in a damp environment. If your dish rack is left wet for extended periods of time, mold can occur.
To avoid mold, we recommend that you dry your bamboo or wooden dish rack between uses. Avoid leaving your dish racks sitting in a wet drain board or storing them in a damp location, like under the sink.

Yes. Our Baltique® utensils are colored using proprietary materials that comply with FDA standards for food contact safety and they also have a food safe lacquer coating.

All wooden or bamboo utensils require a little extra care to ensure their longevity. To keep the color looking brand new on your Baltique® utensils, hand wash them in warm water after each use and let them air dry. Avoid soaking them in water or using them for frying as this could damage them.

Can I cut on the artwork of the board?
We recommend flipping the board over to its blank back side for use as a cutting board. This will prevent any knife damage from occurring on the engraved artwork. The engraved side is wonderful to use as a conversation-starting charcuterie board.
